During the past year EFET has provided ESL (English as a Second Language) resources to English language lecturers at the National University of Timor Leste. For the 2009 year, each English lecturer was provided with ESL materials for semesters 1 and 2, which included the ESL textbooks, listening CDs, a CD player and English/Indonesian dictionaries.

EFET has also contributed to an English-language library of books for the university which will enable students to practice reading English. Literally a trailer load of English books are being sent to it and to another East Timorese university known to us only as UNITAL. These books will be a boon to students of English as they seek to improve their reading and comprehension of English.

I had the good fortune of being in Dili East Timor in August / September. Our small shipment of books kindly donated by Manjimup Primary School W.A. arrived from Australia. These books were picked up in Manjimup and delivered by truck to Perth. Then put in an empty container of Harris Transport to Melbourne by train. Rotary Australia collected from there and kindly put them in their container that was being organised to be delivered to East Timor. Such a long way round but we are very thankful for the generosity and time of those involved. I collected these books and delivered them to the University in the suburb of Becora. The heads of the University and students were thrilled to say the least to have these small reading books. Although not fluent in English and can only read a little these books are a great encouragment to them and because they are primary books they are still adequate for the Timorese. These books were destined to be burnt in Australia. We are currently packaging up a part container load of new and good second hand school clothing to be distributed to orphanages and schools in East Timor once again these clothes were destined to be destroyed.

Currently in East Timor. I will be visiting the district of Baucau tomorrow to implement a program to help sixty primary schooled aged children gain some valuable English lessons. The course with the help of a school teacher who voluntarily gives up all his day on Sunday's to help these children has asked me to visit the school.
The course will be 60 hours. 12 Sunday's 5 hours per week with a meal included. The teacher has said " it will help to develop the youth of the alienated areas ". The spreading of God's truth continues in Timor Leste this trip is in response to a request to teach a contact we have from this district and an appeal to help with her friends who she has gathered to question us. We will take our new brother with us who was baptised on Sunday 31st July 2011. Please give generously to help those who are trying to improve the youth of this country through the means of English.

An update on the work of EFET in Timor Leste. We have sent a number of boxes of school clothing to assist some of the children there. We have also been able to donate $1000.00 to the university in the Becora district which will enable a number of students who would not be able to go onto future semesters at the Uni to continue their studies in English. This money is to be given out to students who have shown committment to their studies, these will be chosen by the head of the University Mr Franscico Amaral. This will enable them to a futher 2yrs of study.

EFET has another shipment of clothing waiting for verification of recipients so that it can be forwarded. Remember all money donated will be used specifically for the work of EFET as all our members are volunteers so we have very few overheads. Thank you for your interest.

Regards Max
