Update on Damage in Vanuatu from Cyclone Pam
Monday, 30 March 2015
Click here to download an update on the Bethezer Cyclone appeal with more information about the effect Cyclone Pam had on the school on Tanna and on our brothers and sisters and friends.
We have attached several photos, taken since Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu, which show some of the damage to the school and to homes of the villagers in the area, including the homes of our brothers and sisters.
Two photos, taken by Bro Chris Powell from a small plane flying over the school, give a good idea of the rugged terrain of the area of the school and of its remoteness. (More photos have been posted to the Bethezer facebook page.)
There is much work to do at the school to repair the damage wreaked by this "once in a lifetime" cyclone. We are also hoping to start a lunch program for the children for the next 3 or 4 months while there is no food coming from the villagers' gardens. If possible, we would like to continue the lunch program even longer. A complete assessment of the damage to the school is also attached for your information. A detailed estimate of the children's lunch program, and the cost of the repairs and rebuilding hasn't yet been completed. At this point, we are expecting the bill to come to somewhere between $45,000 and $55,000.
