Dietitian loves what she saw on Tanna - July 2017
A team from Melbourne, along with members from Sydney and Brisbane, left for Vanuatu on June 30 and had 2 weeks in Port Vila and Tanna. They were able to spend time with the Youth in PV enjoying a CYC evening of Bible discussion and charades.  They also all had a trip to the Blue Lagoon, which was loved by everyone.

The team then flew onto Tanna and started their time and work at the Christadelphian Kapalpal School.  There was building to be done, community work to follow up, and the strengthening of friendship and fellowship amongst the brothers and sisters and community.

The Team and the local community all came together to begin the preparations for the building of a home for teachers at the school.  The brand new kindergarten sandpit equipment was put to good use, assisting in the sieving of sand and carrying of buckets of water for the cement mixing.  As you can see in the photo’s, the kids were so keen to help and get involved.  Andrew Boyd spent time teaching trade skills, even to the youngest of the team! As you can see in the pictures below,, great progress was made. An indoor fireplace was built, along with bedrooms and a small room to use as a bathroom. The team headed home with windows and doors made and ready to be installed.

Alison, who is a dietitian, did some nutritional assessments on some of the kinder children. The results she collected showed that the majority of children are not malnourished and the food provided each day for lunch is doing it’s job, providing nutrients and vitamins required for healthy growth.  The few children that did not quite meet the ‘benchmark’ were noted and will be monitored by the nurse at the clinic, Tess, who sees the children on a regular basis.

The Kinder and School continue to thrive with hundreds of students attending each day.  They are keen to learn and be included in bible studies and activities each day.

Some soft toys were received with excitement and love, one particular Labrador dog was tucked under a child’s arm and permanently adopted and dressed in a vest.  The small gestures and donations we send are so simple from our end, but so appreciated and loved by the children who have minimal toys.

A few other projects going on was a roadside stall established by some of the local women.  When they can afford to purchase vegetables, or crops are good, they will be cooking meals for locals to purchase for lunch each day, this enables them to have an income.

The nappies that our Melbourne sisters sewed, have arrived and will be distributed via the medical clinic.  This is baby Boulton Zeb, a newborn trialling his first real nappy!!
