English for East Timor

East Timor

Lack of English speaking skills among the general population has been the greatest impediment to preaching in East Timor. In 2009, Bethezer had the opportunity to provide assistance to the English faculty of the National University of East Timor with providing source materials for lecturers of English throughout the year. ESL (English as a Second Language) resources such as textbooks, English/Indonesian dictionaries, CDs and a CD player gave much help to the teachers with their English classes.

We have also contributed a large amount of books to the University's English-language library, along with another East Timorese university, UNITAL.

Working with the university gives EFET project staff ready access to young people with some English language skills who are eager to learn from us. We would like to start developing our own facility for education. It would have its own library of helpful English books, would be equipped for English language instruction and for Bible seminars and it would have facilities to house fieldworkers.
